Entry System:
Entries for Tuesday Sales will be taken on Monday, Tuesday & Wednesday (5pm) of the previous week for inclusion in the draw.
Entries for Thursday & Friday Sales will be taken on Thursday and Friday (5pm) of the previous week for inclusion in the draw.
Entries for Monday Sheep Auction taken on Friday of previous week.
The Runner Section:
Only Stock 6 MONTHS OR UNDER will be sold in the Runner Section and they will be sold after the Calf Sale.
Calves must be at least 10 days of age before they can be sold and UNDER 6 weeks of age.
Draw For First Pen To Be Sold in Weanling Bull and Bullock Ring
Draw for First Pen of Heifers to be Sold
***Change to draw system for Bullocks, Heifers, Cull Cows, Weanling Bulls & Weanling Heifers – From 31st January 2022 – enter your stock as usual – if the number drawn is equal to or below half the number of pens entered, we go down to pen 1 and then up. If the number drawn is above half the number of pens entered, we go up to the last pen in the draw, then start at pen 1 and up to the number drawn.
Sheep Sellers All sheep including lambs presented for sale must be identified with a full set of EID tags, i.e. one conventional tag in the sheep’s left ear and a corresponding electronic tag placed in the sheep’s right ear. All sheep moved to and from a livestock mart must also be accompanied by a newly issued dispatch document containing a barcoded document serial number.

A smaller sale today with numbers back slightly on the previous week. Good weather and poor grass growth was reflected in trade today. Weanling bull trade in particular was strong again today but only for the better types with feeders and exporters active prices held on the previous week. In general quality was more varied today in the bull ring, plainer type bulls hard sold. Heifers were a slightly tougher trade this week but again quality very variable. In-calf suckler cows and heifers sold on average for €1,150. Suckler cows with calves ranged from €1,000 up to €1,540. Sheep trade was less again this week reflecting the current market for lamb and factory quotes decreasing as supply increases but numbers increasing as well. Cull ewes made up to €130. Hogget’s made to €122 for 60kg. Spring lambs made up to €124 for a pen of 9 weighing 48kg.Calf numbers smaller but expected with being so late in the season but trade remained firm. Angus/Hereford cross calves sold from €110 up to €420. Continental cross calves sold from €200 up to €390. Small number of Friesian calves and these made from €100 to €200.

A small sale today in Ennis. Trade was a shade easier than last week. Light stores harder sold especially plainer types in both heifer and bullocks. Heavier bullocks and more forward types a firm trade but less than previous weeks although numbers of these were limited. Less farmers around the bullock ring with grass growth poor and a drop-in beef prices this can be expected. Heifer trade was steady for all types, and there was some good quality on offer. A smaller entry of feeder cows and beef cows met a good demand with trade similar to previous week with feeder cows selling better than more forward types with factory agents not as active. Still there were some top-quality cows on offer today and many lots still breaking the €2/kg mark. Aged bulls sold to a top price of €1,380 for a Hereford bull weighing 850kgs.
