| | Clare Marts was established in the late 1950's to serve farmers in the marketing of livestock. The iniative to establish the Society came from the then National Farmers Association with backing from local business in Ennis town. In the beginning the Society had 900 shareholders who raised £15,000 in Share Capital. |
| | In the early 1960s three other independent co-operative marts were established in Co. Clare at Kilrush, Ennistymon, and Scariff. These three mart Societies eventually amalgamated with Clare Co-Op Marts, Ennis to form what is now Clare Marts Ltd. |

| | Co. Clare is renowned for the production of quality store cattle. A big portion of Co. Clare is of limestone base which suits the production of quality store cattle with good bone formation and potential to carry extra carcase weight. About 80% of farmers in Clare are producing cattle in suckler herds. |
