About ClareMarts

Clare Marts is a farmer owned co-operative consisting of 2,500 shareholders. Clare Marts Ltd. has 4 sites with Ennis being the flagship and head office of the organisation.  The other sites are Kilrush, Scariff and Kilfenora. Sales are held weekly in Ennis.  On Tuesdays, weanlings, suckler stock, calves and sheep are on offer while on Thursdays we sell beef and store bullocks and heifers, dry cows and factory bulls, with a Friday sale in the springtime for dairy and sucker cows and some special pedigree and dispersal sales.  Sales in our other centres are seasonal and sale dates can be viewed on our sales diary.

Clare is renowned for the production of top quality weanlings and store cattle, which are produced from a well-established suckler base within the county.  These cattle are deemed very suitable for finishing at heavy carcase weights with customers from all over the country frequenting our sales particularly from the Midlands and Northern Ireland. The general base of the suckler cow herd within the county was of good type stock, however in order to further improve the quality of stock on offer The Society has, over a number of years provided several premia schemes to subsidise the purchase of top quality continental bulls.  These schemes have brought about a further improvement in the quality of stock available at our sales. Approximately 90,000 of these quality animals pass through our centres on an annual basis.

Entry System: 

Entries for Tuesday Sales will be taken on Monday, Tuesday & Wednesday (5pm) of the previous week for inclusion in the draw.

Entries for Thursday & Friday Sales will be taken on Thursday and Friday (5pm) of the previous week for inclusion in the draw.

Entries for Monday Sheep Auction taken on Friday of previous week.

The Runner Section:

Only Stock 6 MONTHS OR UNDER will be sold in the Runner Section and they will be sold after the Calf Sale.

Calves must be at least 10 days of age before they can be sold and UNDER 6 weeks of age.

Draw For First Pen To Be Sold in: Weanling Bull, Weanling Heifer, Suckler Cows, Cull Cows, Heifers & Bullocks

Enter your stock as usual – if the number drawn is equal to or below half the number of pens entered, we go down to pen 1 and then up.  If the number drawn is above half the number of pens entered, we go up to the last pen in the draw, then start at pen 1 and up to the number drawn.

Sheep Sellers  All sheep including lambs presented for sale must be identified with a full set of EID tags, i.e. one conventional tag in the sheep’s left ear and a corresponding electronic tag placed in the sheep’s right ear. All sheep moved to and from a livestock mart must also be accompanied by a newly issued dispatch document containing a barcoded document serial number.

Fine size sale today with just over 500 on offer. Some great forward cattle on offer in all the rings and these met a ferocious demand with bullocks reaching a high of €4,550 for a 38-month-old LMX bullock weighing 925kgs. Heifer & cow trade on par with last week, with some excellent fleshed cows and heifers on offer. Aged bulls averaged €4.13/kg with a top price of €4,520 for a CH bull weighing 1,220kgs.

Good entry of stock today with almost 700 on offer, which included 140 calves. Generally weanlings in both rings were up 10c/kg on last week. Again, calves were a great trade as there was mostly beef breeds available. AAX calves made from €290 to €630, HEX calves made from €300 to €540, with strong continental calves making to €850. Dairy cows made from €1,200 to €1,570, as suckler pairs made to €4,360 and in calf lots made to €3,420.

Sheep Auction

Reasonable size sheep sale with 489 on offer, as a 100% clearance was achieved. In the lambs section anything over 47-48kgs was the same price as 45-47kg lambs. Overweight lambs not wanted as the demand was for factory type lambs. Lambs a bit easier with an average of €4.05/kg and hoggets averaged €3.35/kg. Cull ewes holding a fine trade averaging €2.61/kg, with top quality lots making to €2.92/kg.

Reasonable size sale with 458 on offer. Trade could only be described as very good all round which led to a 99% clearance. Light bullocks under 470kgs were up 40c/kg. Bullocks over this weight up 10-15c/kg. Similar story in the heifer ring this week. Cull cows up 20c/kg on the week but some fabulous cows available today.

Good entry of stock today with 744 on offer, which included 140 calves. A new record was set again this week as a 2-month-old BBX heifer out of a British Friesian cow made €1,220. Overall calves were an excellent trade yet again. AAX calves made from €230 to €490 and HEX calves made from €210 to €540. Suckler stock were a great trade as pairs made to €4,120 and in-calf lots made to €2,780. Light weanling bulls under 300kgs averaged €5.04/kg and bulls over this weight bracket were up 10c/kg on the week. Weanling heifers were up 5c/kg on last week. Some excellent quality stock available in both rings.
